Ker Puja

Ker Puja is a festival that is celebrated in Tripura, a state in the Northeast part of India. This is celebrated after a few weeks after Kharchi Puja. This is a tribal festival that is held to worship the deity of Vastu Devata. It is believed that former rulers used to perform this Puja for the general welfare and well-being of the people of the state.

How is Ker Puja Celebrated?

During the Puja, entrances of the capital city of Tripura, Agartala is closed off to protect the area to halt people entering the city. Many restrictions are also put on the people like they are not allowed to dance, wear shoes, or even light fires, and those who don't obey the rules are burdened with fines and the Puja commences again. During this time, the elderly, sick, and expectant mothers are moved to the nearby villages, so they aren't harmed. The ceremony begins with a Ker Puja in the morning where people are discouraged from screaming or crying.
