Aug 03, 2018

FRIENDS TV show is one of the most prominent and loved shows in the history of television, and there’s no doubt about that. It’s been almost 24 years since FRIENDS TV show was first aired on TV and made a special place in our hearts. Those quirky little one-liners and ruthless comebacks gave the show a special place in our heart. The FRIENDS cast taught us about life, love, money, struggles and made our childhood all fun and prolific. That said, there are a lot of things you can learn from FRIENDS TV show and the list of good things learnt from FRIENDS is endless.

This friendship’s day, to honour this show and your long-lasting FRIENDS’ circle, we’ve pulled together a list of some important personal finance lessons.

Ross Geller aka David Schwimmer

The smartest and the goofiest member of the FRIENDS TV show, famous for his wits and charm. There is one money lesson that Ross taught through his wisdom and guidance-

Persistence pays-off – Ross Geller, has been a persistent person throughout his life and has never rushed onto anything. Ross Geller had a crush on Rachel Green even when they were kids but never felt like rushing to tell her. Eventually, Rachel came back in his life- and he went straight ahead to woo her. Persistence is a great quality when comes to handling your personal finances too.

Whether you’re applying for a personal loan or paying your old loan, it’s important to be persistent rather than rushing onto something. Even if you’re investing your funds into mutual funds, you should be persistent and let the power of compounding work for you.

Rachel Green aka Jennifer Aniston

‘Daddy’s little rich girl’ had the greatest character development in the FRIENDS TV show. From being a self-centered person to a selfless human, we all loved Rachel in the show. She also gave us an important money lesson to not just us but her friends too-

Never buy anything at full priceBefore making any purchase always look for additional discounts, offers, rewards etc. Even when you’re applying for a credit card, make sure to negotiate the joining fee before availing it. Why buy something at full price, when you can get the same product at less price?

Monica-Geller Bing aka Courteney Cox

A hard working chef and the most mature person in the group. There were several instances when she taught us the importance of money in life, but her most important money lesson till date remains covered which is-

It’s important to save for rainy days Monica Geller-Bing has always been the control freak of the FRIENDS cast. She considers herself perfect and is even ready to pay big for her loved ones. But the fate steps in when she suddenly loses her job. Thanks to her savings for rainy days, she still manages to cover those little expenses without getting dependent on anyone.

Chandler Bing aka Matthew Perry

Chandler is hailed as the funniest character in the FRIENDS TV show. He’s crazy sarcastic and has got one-liner for every situation. Besides being funny, he’s also smart and filled with valuable lessons in money matters. He gave us a valuable advice like-

Don’t be afraid to take risks – Chandler quit his high-paying job to pursue his passion. He didn’t care about the judgements and did what he loved. Sometimes, we have to make a bold decision in life to get what we need. You shouldn’t be afraid to go all out at once. In your personal finance too, if there’s a problem like lack of funds or resources, then go out and apply for a personal loan to achieve that dream.

Joey Tribbiani aka Matt LeBlanc

A great friend and actor, Joey’s life was balanced with both struggles and success equally playing their part. He also gave us something valuable to remember like-

Keep track of those little expensesAfter Joey’s big break in the ‘Days of our life’, he goes on a not-so-little shopping spree with his credit card. Little did he know about the surmounting credit card debt he was racking behind. Thanks to Ross for helping Joey to clear out that debt, and saving the day for Joey. Unless and until you have a friend like Ross in your life, you should always take care of those little expenses.

Phoebe Buffay aka Lisa Kudrow

Last but not the least on the list is Phoebe. No doubt that she was the weirdest character on the FRIENDS TV show. She makes money as a freelance massage therapist and a folk singer. We can learn several lessons from her life, and the most valuable lesson we can learn is-

Paying attention to the small printAfter being discovered by a record producer who wants to sign Phoebe and turn her infamous smelly Cat track into a music video, Phoebe signs the deal without reading the fine print. Only, to realise it later that her performance was dubbed over with a voice of a much more talented singer. Therefore, it’s important to read the fine print, whether you’re signing up for a concert or applying for a personal loan. It’s important to read and fully understand those terms so that you don’t encounter something unwanted later.
