Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maan Dhan Yojana

The Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maan-Dhan Yojana scheme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi under the Ministry of Labour and Employment in February 2019. It was launched at Vastral in Gujarat. Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maan-Dhan Yojana is the world’s largest pension scheme. It is a scheme of central government introduced for old age protection and social security of unorganized workers (UW).

The eligibility criteria of the Pradhan Mantri-SYM Scheme

  • He or she should be an unorganized worker falling between the age -group of 18 years to 40 years.
  • Should be earning a monthly income of Rs 15000, or less.
  • He should possess an Aadhaar Card along with a Saving Bank Account/ Jan Dhan account number with IFSC.
  • Any individual who is engaged in the Organised Sector (membership of EPF/NPS/ESIC) and is an income taxpayer will not be eligible to apply for the PM-SYM Scheme.

Benefits of enrolling in Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maan Dhan Yojana

  • It is a voluntary and contributory Pension scheme intended to provide security and protection to unorganized workers as well as to senior citizens. With this scheme, almost 42 Crore workers will get financial security.
  • The main section of unorganized workers that are part of this scheme are vendors, street Rikshaw pullers, mid-day meal workers, construction workers, or workers in similar other occupations.
  • Under this scheme, the beneficiary after attaining the age of 60 years will start getting a pension of Rs 3000 per month, and 50% of the pension is given to the spouse of the beneficiary after the demise.
  • The beneficiary who is making a regular contribution and dies due to any of cause before attaining the age of 60 years, in that case, the spouse has a right to continue the scheme subsequently by payment of regular contributors. The spouse may also take the exit from the scheme as per the provisions of exit and withdrawal.

How to get enrolled in Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maan Dhan Yojana

  • The person who wants to get enrolled under this scheme may visit the nearest Common services center by showing the Aadhaar and Saving bank account/ Jan-Dhan account number on a self-certification basis.
  • Various enrolment agencies carrying the enrolment process of PM-SYM. They are the common services centers. The unorganized worker groups may visit the nearest CSC along with their nearest common service centers along with the required documents and get registered for the PM-SYM scheme.
  • Life Insurance Corporation, ESIC/EPFO, and all Labour offices of Central and State Governments will facilitate the unorganized workers about the benefits and enrolment procedure of the PM-SYM Scheme.

Default: If the subscriber is not making a continuous contribution and is defaulting, in that case, he or she must regularise the contribution by paying the entire outstanding dues all together with the penalty charges, as decided by the government.
