Required Documents for Pan Card

PAN Card requires  the submission of certain documents for the purpose of identification like all other Government identity proof. One can apply for PAN, both online and offline. There are two forms of PAN application, one is for a citizen of India, 49 A and the other is 49AA, for foreigners. PAN application can be made both for making a new PAN card and as well as if you are in need  reprint and update of your existing PAN Card. There are some list of PAN documentation suggested by the Income Tax department under different categories mentioned below:

Documents required for PAN Card for Individual and HUFs ( Citizen of India)

Proof of Identity

  • Aadhar Card
  • Voter's ID card
  • Identity card issued by the State Government, Central Government or any undertaking given by the public sector.
  • Driving Licence
  • Ration Card
  • Arm's license
  • Attested Bank certificate with the mentioning of the bank account number along with the photograph of the applicant.
  • Pensioner card along with the photograph of the applicant.
  • Identity Certificate signed by the Member of Parliament or Legislative Assembly.

Proof of identity in Case of HUF ?

An affidavit needs to be submitted by Karta of HUF stating the applicant’s name, father's name and address of all the coparceners on the date of application of filing a new PAN.

What if the PAN Card application is for Minor?

In that case, one can submit the above documents either for minor or parents as a proof for identification.

Proof of address

  • Aadhar Card
  • Passport/ Passport of a Spouse
  • Voter's ID card
  • Electricity Bills
  • Landline connection bills
  • Bank Account statement
  • Credit Card Statement
  • Domicile Certificate allotted by Government
  • Passbook of Post Office account

Proof of Date of Birth

  • Birth certificate issued by office certified under issuing birth and death certificate i.e Municipal authority or Indian Consulate.
  • Aadhar Card
  • Driving Licence
  • Marriage certificate
  • Affidavit stating date of birth duly signed by magistrate.
  • Passport
  • Matriculation certificate issued from a recognised board.
  • Photo identity card issued by State, Central public sector undertaking or by State or Central Government.
  • Pension payment order
  • Marriage certificate issued from Marriage Registrar office.

What all PAN Documentation required for making a New PAN Card for individual and HUFs ( Not a citizen of India) ?

There is a slight difference in the documents needed for PAN Card application by individuals and HUFs who are not Indian citizens. These applicants have to submit identity proof and address proof.

Documents required as an identity proof

  • Passport
  • OCI card allotted by the Government of India.
  • PIO card allotted by the Government of India.
  • Non- resident external bank account statements in India.
  • Bank account statement of the country where the applicant is residing.
  • Attested copy of Citizenship Identity number, National Identity number or Taxpayer identity number by High Commission Consulate or by Indian Embassy functioning in the applicant's home country.

Documents required as an address proof

  • Passport
  • OCI card allotted by the Government of India.
  • PIO card allotted by the Government of India.
  • Registration certificate issued by Foreign Registration office which reflects Indian address.
  • Non- resident external bank account statements in India.
  • Bank account statement of the country where the applicant is residing.
  • Citizenship Identity number, National Identity number or Taxpayer identity number should be duly attested by High Commission Consulate or by Indian Embassy which is functioning in the applicant's home country.

Required documents for PAN for Companies incorporated in India?

Company

Copy of certificate of registration issued by the registrar of companies.

Trust

An Association(Trust) formed by a group of individuals who hold assets on behalf of beneficiary or beneficiaries.

Documents required by Trust registered or formed in India for PAN are as follows:

  • Copy of deed of trust
  • Copy of certificate of registration number issued by Charity commissioner.

Documents required by Trust registered or formed outside India for PAN are as follows:

  • Copy of the registration certificate issued by Registrar of Firms.
  • Copy of Partnership deed
  • Copy of Registration certificate issued in India.
  • Copy of approval granted to set up trust in India by Indian authorities.

Partnership Firms

  • Copy of Partnership Deed
  • Copy of Certificate of registration issued by the Registrar of Firms.

Limited Liability Partnership

  • Copy of certificate of registration issued by the Registrar of LLPs.

Association of person/ Body of individuals

  • Copy of agreement
  • Copy of registration number issued by Charity Commissioner, Registrar of Cooperative Society or any other Competent Authority.
  • Document originating from State or Central Government which establishes address or identity of a person.

Artificial Juridical Person

  • Copy of agreement
  • Copy of registration number issued by Charity Commissioner, Registrar of Cooperative Society or any other competent authority.
  • Document originating from State or Central Government which establishes address or identity of a person.

Documents required for PAN Card application by a Firm or Association of a person who does not have an office in India

Proof of Identity

  • Copy of registration certificate issued in the residing country of the applicant duly attested by Apostille or High Commission or Consulate or Indian Embassy in the country of the applicant's residence.
  • Registration Certificate issued in India or of approval granted to set up office in India by Indian authorities.

Proof of address

  • Copy of registration certificate issued in the residing country of the applicant duly attested by Apostille or High Commission or Consulate or Indian Embassy in the country of the applicant's residence.
  • Registration Certificate issued in India or approval granted to set up office in India by Indian authorities.
  • Applicant has to make sure that all certificates must be in the same format prescribed by the Income Tax Authorities.
