Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana

Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana scheme was launched on 1st June 2015 by the Government of India. It was introduced to provide affordable housing to the urban poor. It is a Credit Linked Subsidy Scheme (CLSS), which means beneficiaries under this scheme are eligible for receiving the interest subsidy if they avail of a loan to buy or construct a house. The mission of this scheme is to provide housing to all by the end of the year 2022.

Types of PMAY Scheme

Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin: It was previously known as the Indira Awas Yojana. It was introduced in the year 2016. The objective of the scheme is aimed at providing affordable and accessible housing units to eligible beneficiaries in rural regions of India (excluding Chandigarh and Delhi). 

Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Urban: This scheme is focused on the urban areas in India. At present, there 4,331 towns and cities which are enlisted under this scheme. The scheme is set to function under three different phases:

Phase 1: In this phase, 100 cities in different states and union territories will be covered across the country from April 2015 to March 2017.

Phase 2: In this phase, 200 or more cities will be covered in different states and union territories across the country from April 2017 to March 2019.

Phase 3: Under Phase 3, the government has targeted to cover those cities which have been left out in Phase 1 and 2 and attain the target by the end of March 2022.

Features of PMAY Scheme

  • Under PMAY Scheme, the subsidy interest rate is provided at 6.50% p.a. on a housing loan for 20 years to all the beneficiaries.
  • Differently abled and senior citizens will be given preference in the allocation of ground floors.
  • Sustainable and eco-friendly technologies would be used for house construction.
  • The scheme covers entire urban areas in the country which includes 4041 statutory towns with the priority given to 500 Class I cities. This will be done in 3 phases.

PMAY Eligibility

The family of the applicant should not own a house in any part of the country.

For married couples, either a single or a joint ownership deal is allowed, and both options will receive just one subsidy.

The applicant’s family must not have availed the benefit of any housing-related schemes set up by the Government of India.

Documents Required for PMAY Application

  • Duly filled and signed Application Form with your latest photograph 
  • Applicant's KYC Documents including Aadhaar card or PAN card
  • Your latest education qualifications certificate
  • Latest Salary-slips for 3 months for Salaried Employees or Certificate & Proof of business existence along with Business Profile for Self Employed professional
  • Form 16 for last 2 years for Salaried employees or Last 3 years Income Tax returns (self and business) with Profit & Loss Account & Balance Sheets duly certified/audited by a Chartered Accountant for self-employed professional
  • Last 6 months Bank Statements (salary account) for salaried employees or Last 12 months Bank Account Statements (self & business) for self-employed professional
  • Self-declaration from the customer for family income
  • Affidavit on requisite stamp paper on Ownership of property in case of construction or extension loan
  • Photocopy of Title Documents of the Property, Approved Plan

PMAY Application Process

Online Process

Firstly, visit the official website of the PMAY Scheme and log in using your ID and Password.


Now choose the ‘Benefits under other 3 components’ option by clicking the ‘Citizen Assessment’ dropdown.


Enter your Aadhaar number and click on the submit button.


If you have provided the correct information, you will be redirected to the next page where you will have to provide all the information such as your name, income, no. of family members, residential address, contact number, age of the head of the family, religion, caste, etc.

After all the information has been provided, scroll down, type the captcha code in the box and click on the submit button.


Offline Process

  • Visit the nearest Common Service Centre (CSC), operated by your respective State Government or Union Territory Government. You can also visit any bank listed under the PMAY scheme.
  • Collect and fill up the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana form.
  • Submit the duly filled form along with the required documents at the respective Common Service Centre or the respective bank.

Note: An application fee of Rs. 25 along with GST will be charged if you opt for the offline process.

How to Print or Download Your PMAY Application Form?

Please follow the below-mentioned steps to print/download your PMAY Application Form.

  • Visit the official website of PMAY and then enter your ID and Password.
  • After that, click on ‘Citizen Assessment’ and a drop-down menu pops up.
  • Then, choose the option ‘Track Your Assessment Status’ from the drop-down menu.
  • After clicking on the said option, you will get the Track Assessment Form.
  • Select either ‘By Name, Father’s Name, and Mobile Number’ or ‘By Assessment ID’.
  • Enter the required details and click on ‘Submit’ to access the application form.
  • Click on ‘Print’.

How can I check my PMAY status?

If you want to check your PMAY status, you can do so by visiting the official website of PMAY. The process is quick and simple. All you need to do is click on ‘Citizen Assessment’ and select the ‘Track Your Assessment Status’ option. On the new page, you can check the status of your PMAY application by either entering your mobile number and father’s name or your Assessment ID. You can also place a call on the PMAY toll-free numbers mentioned here i.e.  1800-11-3377, 1800-11-3388, and 1800-11-6163.

PMAY List 2020

The PMAY List includes the names of those individuals who have been selected to receive the benefits of the scheme. The list for PMAY 2020 Has already been published. To check your name on that list, firstly you need to determine whether you applied under the Urban segment of the Rural segment. The steps to check your name in the PMAY Urban List and PMAY Rural List are mentioned below.

How to Check PMAY Urban List 2020?

To check the PMAY Urban list, you need to follow the below-mentioned steps:

Step 1: Visit the official website of PMAY.

Step 2: Then, click on ‘Select Beneficiary’ and select ‘Search by Name’ option from the drop-down menu.

Step 3: Now, enter your Aadhaar card number.

Step 4: If your Aadhaar number is present in the database then you will find beneficiaries’ detail.

How to Check PMAY Gramin (Rural) List 2020?

To check the PMAY Gramin list, you need to follow the below-mentioned steps:

Step 1: Firstly, visit the official website of PMAY.

Step 2: Then, enter your Registration Number and click on the ‘Submit’ button.

Step 3: If the entered registration number is present in the beneficiary database, your details will show up.

If you do not have the registration number, then you can click on ‘Advanced Search’. That will redirect you to a new page where you will be required to enter details such as your name, BPL number, Sanction Order, etc., in the form.
