How to link Aadhaar to Mutual Funds

Indian Government has made it mandatory for people to link mutual funds investment with Aadhar number. Amendments have been made in Prevention of Money Laundering (Maintenance of Records) Second Amendment Rules, 2017 to facilitate the process of linking investments in mutual funds with Aadhaar.

You can send an email to your AMC (Asset Management Company) mentioning your Aadhaar and PAN details. The concerned authority will link your account with Aadhaar number. However, your email should be linked with the mutual fund to avail of this facility.

Steps to Link Aadhaar with Mutual Funds through CAMS

Aadhaar can be linked online by visiting the CAMS website. You can follow these simple steps to link mutual funds with your Aadhaar number:

Step 1: Visit the Aadhaar – MF linking portal of CAMS.


Step 2: Select the investor type – Individual, HUF or non-individual.

Step 3: Enter your 10-digit PAN number and submit.


Step 4: Enter details such as your Aadhaar number, name, DOB, gender, mobile number, etc.


Step 5: Select the mutual fund accounts you want to link with Aadhaar.

Step 6: Now click on “Generate OTP” to send the OTP to the mobile number registered with Aadhaar.

Step 7: Enter the OTP, tick the disclaimer and click on the “Submit” button.


Steps to Link Aadhaar with Mutual Funds through Karvy

Follow the below-mentioned steps to link your mutual funds with Aadhaar through Karvy:

Step1: Visit the Aadhaar – MF linking portal of Karvy.

Step 2: Select the investor type – Individual, HUF or non-individual.

Step 3: Enter your 10-digit PAN number and submit.

Step 4: Enter details such as your Aadhaar number, name, DOB, gender, mobile number, etc.

Step 5: Select the mutual fund accounts you want to link with Aadhaar.

Step 6: Now click on “Generate OTP” to send the OTP to the mobile number registered with Aadhaar.

Step 7: Enter the OTP, tick the disclaimer and click on the “Submit” button.

Step 8: You will get a confirmation message when your Aadhaar is seeded with your mutual fund account.

Steps to Link Aadhaar with Mutual Fund through SMS

Follow the below-mentioned steps to link your mutual funds with Aadhaar via SMS facility:

Step 1: Type a message in the format ADRLNKYour PANYour AadhaarY.

Step 2: Send the SMS to +91 9212993399 from the mobile number registered with Karvy.

Step 3: Y in the message is for providing consent to Karvy to authenticate and seed Aadhaar with your mutual fund.

Step 4: You will get a confirmation message on successful Aadhaar seeding.

Note: Your mobile number should be linked with your mutual fund to avail of this facility.

Steps to Link Aadhaar with Mutual Fund Offline

If your mobile number or email id is not linked with the mutual fund account. In such cases, you can opt for linking your mutual fund with Aadhaar offline:

Step 1: Fill the Aadhaar linking form mentioning your mutual fund details and Aadhaar.

Step 2: Attach a self-attested copy of your Aadhaar card with the form.

Step 3: Submit the form at the nearest service center of your fund manager.

Step 4: You will get a confirmation message on successful Aadhaar Seeding.

How to Check Aadhaar–MF Linking Status Online?

Mutual funds investors can check their Aadhaar-MF linking status online for both CAMS and Karvy. To check, you need to visit the Aadhaar-MF linking portal of their fund managers – CAMS or Karvy. Then you need to enter your PAN number after which all mutual fund accounts associated with it will be displayed on the screen. 

Points to Remember while Aadhaar-MF Linking

  • Investors should keep the following points in their mind while linking Mutual Funds to Aadhaar number:
  • Your mobile number should be linked with Aadhaar for OTP-based authentication.
  • Your mobile number should also be linked with the mutual fund account.
  • Details in the Aadhaar seeding form should match with that of the Aadhaar card, else the account will not be linked to the Aadhaar.
  • All mutual funds can be linked with Aadhaar through PAN number by itself.

Who should Link Aadhaar with Mutual Funds?

  • All holders of mutual funds, be it first holder, joint holders, guardian (for minors), Power of Attorney (POA) holders or donors (Children’s schemes), need to furnish their Aadhaar details to initiate the linking process.
  • NRIs do not have to link their mutual funds with Aadhaar as they are not eligible for Aadhaar.
  • Residents of Jammu & Kashmir, Assam and Meghalaya are also exempted from Aadhaar seeding.
  • In case of non-individuals such as firms, companies, etc., all authorized signatories need to submit their Aadhaar details for linking.
  • In case of investments done by HUFs, Karta of the family need to provide the Aadhaar card.

Implications of Non-Linking of Aadhaar with Mutual Funds

As per the guidelines issued by AMFI to fund managers and AMCs, mutual fund companies need to submit Aadhaar details of new investors at the time of opening the new account. The existing users need to link their Aadhaar with MF accounts before the end of the deadline post, accounts which are not linked with Aadhaar will be rendered inoperative. Investors will have to submit Aadhaar to activate the account eventually. Therefore, it is recommended to link your mutual fund investments account with Aadhaar number beforehand to stay away from any hassles.
