The NPS or National Pension Scheme is a government-backed voluntary retirement saving scheme, that enables people to generate a considerable corpus at the time of retirement. The scheme is managed by the PFRDA (Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority). It has advised subscribers to link Aadhaar cards with their NPS account.

A subscriber needs to open only one NPS account in which they need to submit at least Rs. 6,000 per month. A subscriber of NPS can withdraw a part of the amount in a lump sum and utilize the remaining part to purchase an annuity and ensure he/she gets a regular income after retirement.

Steps to Link NPS Account with Aadhaar Online (for Existing Subscribers)

If you are an existing user, you can follow these steps to link your NPS account with Aadhaar-

Step 1: First, log in to your NPS account using your user ID and password at https://npscra.nsdl.co.in/


Step 2: Then click on “ the Update Details” option and select the “Update Aadhaar/Address Details” option.


Step 3 : Enter your Aadhaar number twice and click on the “Generate OTP” button.


Step 4: Click on the “Proceed” button to give consent to NSDL e-Gov for initiating the linking process

Step 5: An OTP is sent to the mobile number registered with Aadhaar.

Step 6: Enter this OTP in the box provided and click on the “Continue” button.

 Step 7: After successful authentication, your Aadhaar will be linked to your NPS account.

How to Link NPS Account with Aadhaar Online (for New Subscribers)

For a new subscriber, it is very easy to open an NPS account online and link it with Aadhaar at the time of opening. You can follow the below-mentioned steps to link your NPS account with Aadhaar:

Step 1: Visit the NSDL e-NPS portal at https://enps.nsdl.com/eNPS/NationalPensionSystem.html

Step 2: Click on the “Registration” option.

Step 3: Select the details and enter your Aadhaar number in the space given and click on the “Generate OTP” button.

Step 4: Select the disclaimer with a tick and then, click on the “Proceed” button.

Step 5: An OTP will be sent to the mobile number registered with Aadhaar. Now, you need to enter the OTP in the space provided and click on “Continue”.

Step 6: Fill out the NPS registration form, and make the payment which will generate your acknowledgment number.

Step 7: As a next step, submit your registration details and generate your PRAN (Permanent Retirement Account Number).

Step 8: Now, you’ll have to e-Sign the registration form to complete the NPS subscription process.

Important Points to Remember While Aadhaar – NPS Linking

It is important to keep the following mentioned points in your mind while linking your Aadhaar number with NPS account:

  • The name mentioned in your PRAN (Permanent Retirement Account Number) should match with the name mentioned on your Aadhaar card.
  • Subscriber needs to follow the Aadhaar-NPS linking process even if he/she had submitted Aadhaar at the time of subscription.
  • Linking Aadhaar with NPS is carried out through the Aadhaar OTP authentication method only.
  • Your mobile number should be registered with your Aadhaar number to avail of this facility. It is mandatory to link your mobile number with Aadhaar if you have not done it already.
  • Aadhaar seeding for government employees is considered complete only when the respective Nodal officer approves the request.
