October holidays 2024

Gandhi Jayanti: India celebrates the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi every year on 2 October. It is one of the 3 national holidays observed in the country. Schools and colleges organize various types of events and competitions on account of the day for students.

Maha Saptami: It is a 9-day Durga Puja festival observed in the Northern regions of India. Anagarika’s bathing ceremony signifies the importance of this festival which also entails the worship of Goddess Saraswati.

Durgashtami: Durgashtami or Mahaasthami or Durga Ashtami is dedicated to Goddess Durga. The devotees of Goddess Durga observe fasting on the day that commemorates her triumph over Mahishasura.

Maha Navami: The devotees worship the Goddess Durga in different avatars on the 9th day of the festival of Navratri. They also perform Dampati pooja and Suvasini pooja on the day of Maha Navami.

Ayudha Puja: Ayudha Puja is a famous Hindu festival observed in many parts of India and normally falls on the 9th day of the bright half of the 15-day cycle of the moon. People worship the instruments that are used quite often.

Dussehra: Dussehra or Dasahara or Dashain is observed normally at the completion of Navaratri each year. It is a historically important festival celebrated by the Hindus either in September or October.

Maharshi Valmiki Jayanthi: On this day, we celebrate the birth anniversary of this great poet in Punjab and Himachal Pradesh.

Lakshmi Puja: Lakshmi Puja is a festival holiday in October 2024  in West Bengal, Karnataka, and Tripura. As its name indicates, the festival is dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi, who is believed to be the Goddess of wealth.
