PAN Card Correction

Permanent Account Number (PAN) is an essential document not only for tax filing purposes but also a government identity proof. So, any incorrect information on PAN Card leads to create many problems in the future. To avoid any problems, it is better to make the required corrections in the PAN card.

An individual should make sure to fill all the required columns in the form and avoid ticking in box located on the left margin of the form.

  • Visit NSDL or the UTIITSL portal.
  • Fill in the PAN Change Request Form online.
  • Always make sure that you give your PAN number correctly as an incorrect number will delay your change request.
  • Make sure you select the checkbox next to the parameters that you wish to change.
  • For example, if you are changing your name spelling, enter the correct spelling, and select the checkbox on the left margin. If you do not select the checkbox, the change will not be made.
  • Check all your details and submit the form.
  • Once your PAN corrections have been confirmed, a 15-digit acknowledgment number will be allotted to you. Keep this number in handy, since you will require it for further communication or to track your application status.
  • Make the payment, take a printout of the acknowledgment, attach the required documents, and send it to, Income Tax PAN Services Unit (Managed by NSDL e-Governance Infrastructure Limited). 5th Floor, Mantri Sterling, Plot No. 341, Survey No. 997/8, Model Colony, near Deep Bungalow Chowk, Pune 411 016.
  • If you are submitting the document on the UTIITSL website, you will have to send the required documents to any one of the UTIITSL offices in Mumbai, Kolkata, New Delhi, or Chennai.

Note:This last step is not required if you have digitally signed and uploaded documents.

  • Visit NSDL or UTIITSL portal.
  • Download and take a printout of the PAN Correction form.
  • Fill it and submit it to your nearest NSDL or UTIITSL Centre.
  • Also, send along the required documents.
  • While filling in the details, remember to tick the box on the left margin for details that you would like changed on your PAN card.
  • You can check the status of PAN Card correction post correction being submitted with the acknowledgment number.
  • Navigate to the website and select ‘Track PAN Card’.
  • Once the window opens then enter the ‘Tracking number’ Tracking number means Acknowledgement number in case of NSDL. Application number in case of UTIITSL.
  • Hit the button ‘Submit’ and track the status of PAN Card correction.

Things to keep in mind at the time of making modifications on your PAN Card

  • Never make use of the abbreviations in the first and last names.
  • Non- individuals which include (Companies and Partnerships) should always write their full names.
  • If there is no space left in the first row, you can continue the name of the Corporation in the second row also.
  • Be ensured that not to make use of abbreviations in the company’s name.
  • If an individual’s PAN Card has an incorrect or unclear photograph or signature, then in that case individual needs to do the submission of the original PAN card after you submit the acknowledgment form.

What is the processing fee for making corrections in PAN Card?

  • Fee for correcting a PAN Card is Rs 96(85 Plus taxes)
  • This fee can be made via cheque or demand draft or by using a Credit card or Master card.
  • If you are planning to make payment via demand draft, it should be payable at Mumbai along with acknowledgment number and name written on the backside of your cheque or demand draft.
