Duplicate Driving License in India

Holding a valid driving license is important in India. It allows you to legally drive your vehicle on the road. If in case, your driving license has been stolen, lost, or damaged, you can obtain a duplicate driving license by contacting the RTO that issued your license. You can also apply for it online directly on the RTO website. Here you can check the application process in detail.

Online and Offline procedure to procure a duplicate driving license

If you want to apply for a duplicate driver's license in India, you can do so either online or offline.

Online procedure

The online application procedure for obtaining a duplicate Driving License in India is explained in detail below:

Step 1: Visit the home page of the Ministry of Transport and Highways of Road (Parivahan web portal).

Step 2: Click on 'Apply Online' on the left side of the home page and then select and click on Services on Driving License.


Step 3: You will be displayed a list of Driving License services page, then click on Continue option.


Step 4: Enter your driving license number and Date of birth and then click on the GO option.


Step 5: Applicant name with few other details will be displayed on the screen.

Step 6: Select the applicable state and RTO and then click on Proceed.


Step 7: Details of the driving license will be displayed. You need to verify all the details and then click on the proceed button. 


Step 8: The issue of the NOC transaction page will be displayed. Select the required details from drop boxes displayed and click on the confirm option. On the left side of the page, you can see a declaration and the captcha.


Step 9: You need to put a tick mark on the declaration box and provide the captcha then click on the Submit button.

Step 10: After that, an Acknowledgement form will be generated with the Applicant details and the service requested.

Step 11: Click on the Next button to proceed.


Step 12: Select the radio button Upload Documents to upload the required documents and then click on the “Next” button.


Step 13: Click on the “OK” button to continue uploading the documents.


Step 14: Select the address proof from the list of documents, upload, and then click on the “confirm” option.


Step 15: After that select, the age proof from the list of documents and then upload the document and click on confirm.


Step 16: Select the form 1 from the document list for uploading and click on upload and then confirm. Click on the next option.


Step 17: Click on the radio button “Upload Photo and Signature” to upload the Photo & signature and then click on the Next button.

Step 18: The page will display as depicted below, read the instructions for the size of the photo & signature and click on “Upload and View files.

Step 19: The below message will appear after the photo and signature are successfully inserted and click on to the “Next” option to go to the next page.

Step 20: Select the Fee Payment option and click on the “Next” option to continue for fee payment.


Step 21: See the instructions and click on “Click here to continue e-Payment” for the continuation of the payment process.

Step 22: On the next page check all the details and click on “Proceed for Payment” for continuation on the payment process.

Step 23: Click on the “Continue” option to log in to the bank for the payment process.


Step 24: After making payment, the payment success acknowledgment window will appear, click on “Print Receipt” to generate your payment receipt.


Step 25: The payment receipt will be generated, check all the details in the payment receipt.



Offline procedure

Follow the below-given steps to get your duplicate Driving License from the RTO without any hassles.

Step 1: Visit the RTO office of your state that issued your license. File the LLD form which is for the application of a duplicate driving license. Fill and sign the form.

Step 2: Submit the form and attach all the supporting documents. You may also be asked for some additional documents depending on the reason for applying for a duplicate license.

Step 3: You will be required to pay a nominal fee to obtain your duplicate driving license. Once this is done, you will get a receipt that can be used in place of a driving license until you get your duplicate license. 

Step 4: After everything is done, the license will be sent to your registered home address via post.

Documents required for duplicate driving license

Here is the list of some of the general documents that you would require to get a duplicate driving license. 

  • Duplicate driving license application form (Form LLD)
  • A copy of the First Instance Report (FIR) (in case if it is lost or stolen)
  • Original License (if it is mutilated, torn or soiled)
  • Attested photocopies of the original driver's license (if the same is lost)
  • Details of the Driving License
  • Copies of passport-sized photographs
  • Address and Age proof documents (Aadhaar Card is mandatory)
  • Challan clearance report from Delhi Traffic Police (for transport vehicles) 
  • Form No 1 (application form declaring physical fitness)
  • Prescribed fee 

Information required to fill the LLD form

While filling your LLD form, you need to enter the following information-

  • Your full name and address
  • State your reason for applying for a duplicate driving license. Whether your license was lost, stolen, torn, or destroyed.
  • Enter your driving license number, class of motor vehicle for which the driving license was held, name of driving license holder, licensing authority and the expiry date of the license
  • Present a declaration that your license was not impounded by any authority
  • After all the information is filled, sign the application form, and enter the place and date
